KADUNA FILM FESTIVAL DEMANDS RETURN OF MINISTRY FOR ARTS & CULTURE

At the 8th Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), organizers called on the Kaduna State Government to reinstate the Ministry for Arts and Culture, which was merged into a broader ministry in 2019. They argue that a dedicated ministry is vital for authentic grassroots support for creatives and for leveraging arts as a tool for social transformation.

KADIFF Executive Director Israel Audu highlighted cinema’s power to reflect society and drive change on issues like inequality and human rights. The festival, themed “Film for Social Change,” runs August 26-30 with films from 15+ countries, masterclasses, and workshops. The Deputy Governor’s office praised the festival’s role in youth empowerment and job creation, noting Nollywood’s massive economic impact.

The call is clear: bring back the Ministry for Arts and Culture to boost Kaduna’s creative economy and social progress.
