Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved a new minimum wage of N104,000 for Imo civil servants, up from N76,000. Doctors’ wages jumped from N215,000 to N503,000 and tertiary institution teachers now earn N222,000, nearly double the previous rate. He announced this during a Tuesday night meeting with labor leaders in Owerri.
Uzodimma emphasized that good pay means happier families, higher productivity, and a stronger local economy. He highlighted efforts to rebuild infrastructure, reduce debt, and increase the state’s revenue while acknowledging challenges like insecurity and higher living costs due to subsidy removal. The governor also pledged transparency and urged unity between labour and government for continued progress.
Labour leaders hailed the wage increase as a major win, praising the governor’s fairness and political will to uplift workers. Pensioners will begin receiving a N16 billion gratuity payment starting August 27.
