When journalists and miners team up, illegal mining doesn’t stand a chance—Abuja just witnessed a workshop where words met action!
On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Abuja played host to a dynamic workshop organized by the FCT Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), spotlighting the critical role of the media in cracking down on illegal mining. Comrade Grace Ike, the energetic NUJ-FCT Chairman, handed a souvenir to the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewa, symbolizing a powerful alliance between the press and law enforcement in this ongoing battle.
The event also brought together heavy hitters like Mr. Dele Ayanleke, National President of the Miners Association, and Attah Onoja, Commandant of the Mining Marshal, alongside eager workshop participants. Together, they explored strategies to amplify media influence in the fight against unlawful mining activities that threaten Nigeria’s resources.
With reporters armed and ready, and miners committed to clean practices, this workshop laid the groundwork for a future where the media doesn’t just report the story—they help shape it.
