Mr. Jelili Atiku, renowned traditionalist and artist, has called on the Federal Government to officially recognise indigenous communities by declaring a public holiday honouring their religious celebrations. He says this would promote cultural dignity, national unity, and decolonisation by highlighting Nigeria’s rich indigenous heritage.
Atiku emphasised that such a holiday would give marginalised rural communities visibility and strengthen collective identity, noting that only Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states have taken this step so far.
