IOM DONATES $1.1M TO SUPPORT IDPs IN BENUE, URGES PEACEBUILDING

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) donated $1.1 million (₦1.69 billion) to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue, focusing on Yelewata and Naka camps. Deputy Director-General Ugochi Daniels emphasised the donation is part of efforts to return IDPs to their ancestral homes or resettle them with dignity.

Governor Hyacinth Alia praised the partnership, contributing $50,000 to support IOM’s work, highlighting efforts like biometric registration and mega camp construction. Both stressed the need for peacebuilding to ensure sustainable development and safe returns for vulnerable IDPs, many of whom are women and children.
