EXPERTS URGE SUPPORT FOR SMALLHOLDER FARMERS OVER INDUSTRIAL FARMING TO ENSURE FOOD SECURITY

Agricultural and environmental experts at a workshop in Abuja called for increased backing of smallholder farmers—who produce 70% of Nigeria’s food—instead of industrial animal farming. They warn industrial farming drives climate change, threatens wildlife habitats, and poses health risks due to poor environmental assessments.
Experts stressed the need for government regulation, community involvement, and food sovereignty to protect local farmers and ensure sustainable, healthy food production for Nigeria.
