UNICEF CALLS FOR INCREASED FUNDING TO FIGHT MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY IN SOKOTO

UNICEF urges greater financial investment in Sokoto’s social sectors to combat rising multidimensional poverty, especially among vulnerable groups. Speaking at a workshop on Medium Term Sector Strategies (2026-2028), UNICEF’s Michael Juma highlighted the urgent need for child-focused initiatives like cash transfers, social health insurance, and support for out-of-school children.

The Sokoto State government was commended for its commitment to programme-based budgeting, a shift essential for transparent, effective resource use aligned with development goals. State officials emphasized planning and evidence-based budgeting to ensure impactful healthcare, education, and social protection services.
