Senator Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta) has proposed a bold bill to establish and manage ranches across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas and the FCT to modernise livestock farming, curb open grazing, and enhance national food security. The bill seeks a strong legal framework supporting environmentally sustainable ranching with public-private partnerships and transparent funding.
Nwoko’s legislation aims to set up a Ranch Management Agency, regulate ranch operations, and resolve conflicts between farmers and herders. It promotes cooperation at federal, state, and local levels, protects land rights under the Land Use Act, ensures animal welfare, and incentivizes private sector involvement while driving economic growth and job creation.
