Power Moves: Nigeria Launches WEIDE Fund to Boost Women Exporters in the Digital Age

When women thrive, economies soar — and Nigeria just flipped the switch with the Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WEIDE) Fund. Launched in Abuja, this game-changing initiative is here to turbocharge female-led businesses on the global stage, thanks to a star-studded lineup of ministers and the WTO’s head.
Last Thursday in Abuja, a powerhouse gathering marked the launch of the WEIDE Fund, a bold new effort to support Nigerian women exporters leveraging digital commerce. Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Sen. John Enoh, alongside Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, took centre stage with a shining cast including the World Trade Organization’s Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the First Lady’s representative, Hajia Nana Kashim Shettima.
The event spotlighted collaboration at its finest, with the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Olatunbosun Tijani, also present, underscoring the government’s commitment to marrying technology with trade. The WEIDE Fund promises to unlock new opportunities for women entrepreneurs, propelling Nigeria’s presence in the digital export market.
As these leaders put their heads – and hearts – together, the message was clear: it’s time for women to take the digital economy by storm, one export at a time.
