After three years on the run, NDLEA operatives captured 36-year-old Sunday Ibigide in Asaba, Delta State, seizing 138kg of cannabis during his arrest on August 10, 2025. Ibigide had been wanted since March 2022 for drug trafficking linked to previous seizures. His aide, Clement Osuya, 27, was also arrested.

Alongside this, NDLEA intercepted five containers at Onne Port, Rivers State, containing codeine syrup and benzhexol pills valued at ₦7.8 billion. Other arrests and raids across Lagos, Enugu, and various states led to confiscation of large drug quantities, including cannabis farms destroyed and major opioid seizures.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) praised the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse efforts, emphasising a balanced approach of enforcement and public sensitisation for Nigeria’s future.
