Ondo Police have arrested Bello Azeez, 29, for staging his own kidnapping to extort N500,000 from his parents and friends. After being denied a loan to settle a debt, Azeez claimed he was abducted and had ransom paid directly into his personal bank account through a GoFundMe campaign.
Suspicion grew when relatives found it unusual for a kidnap victim to demand ransom straight to his account, prompting the police investigation that revealed Azeez was never missing. He has confessed and will face court. Police warn against greed and deception, urging families to guide youth against crime and for the public to support security efforts.
