GOV. UZODIMMA CALLS ON EDITORS TO CHAMPION RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM FOR DEMOCRACY

Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to lead responsible, developmental journalism that promotes national unity and progress. Speaking during a courtesy visit by NGE executives, Uzodimma stressed the media’s critical role as gatekeepers of truth, warning against the spread of falsehoods on social media and calling for its regulation ahead of upcoming elections.

He emphasised the media’s power to shape public opinion—either fuelling division or fostering peace—and urged patriotic, constructive reporting. Uzodimma assured government support and encouraged collaboration to drive Imo’s development, highlighting key projects like the Assumpta Flyover and upcoming electricity initiatives.

NGE President Eze Anaba praised the governor as a “friend of journalists” and invited him to speak at the guild’s October conference in Abuja.
