Worsening insecurity has forced over 15,000 Nigerian herders and families to flee to neighbouring countries, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) revealed during the inauguration of Kwara State’s new MACBAN chairman. National president Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma highlighted that Fulani pastoralists are among the worst hit by banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, with over 40,000 cattle lost and many lives taken.
Ngelzarma called for an end to ethnic profiling and stressed that lasting peace requires community collaboration between herders, host communities, and authorities. He praised government efforts like the Ministry of Livestock Development and emphasised plans for permanent herder settlements to secure livelihoods. Kwara State’s government reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and fostering peaceful coexistence.
