Kaduna State has started issuing health insurance ID cards to 15,916 vulnerable people, including pregnant women and children under five, under its Health Insurance Scheme. Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe emphasised that health is a fundamental right and this initiative bridges the gap from vulnerability to security—providing access to quality care and easing the heavy burden of out-of-pocket expenses that many Nigerians face.
Since Governor Uba Sani took office, the government has invested massively in revitalising health centres and hospitals to ensure affordable, accessible healthcare for all. The scheme has already enrolled over 31,000 beneficiaries, exceeding targets, and aims to reach 70,000 vulnerable people soon. Partnerships with UNICEF, Gates Foundation, CHAI, and support from traditional rulers and philanthropists have been crucial. Health Commissioner Umma Ahmed called on community leaders and media to promote the scheme and ensure no woman or child is left behind.
