The Federal Government unveils the ₦10 million Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), an interest-free loan scheme aimed at improving welfare, career development, and financial stability for academic and non-academic staff across Nigerian tertiary institutions. Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa calls it a strategic empowerment platform under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Reform Agenda, designed to help staff live with dignity and serve students better.
With benefits covering medical care, housing, transport—including vehicle purchases and EV conversions—small business and agricultural ventures, and academic advancement, TISSF targets confirmed full-time staff with at least five years to retirement. Loans are capped at one-third of annual salary, repayable over five years after a 12-month grace period. Applications are online, ensuring a transparent, accessible process supported by the Bank of Industry.
Stakeholders including the House committee, staff unions, and university leaders have pledged support, emphasising the scheme’s potential to uplift staff living standards and strengthen Nigeria’s education sector.
