Eleven Nigerian miners stranded in the Central African Republic (CAR) have expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the federal government for their timely rescue after enduring nearly a year of harsh and life-threatening conditions. Lured by a Nigerian agent and a Chinese national, the miners were abandoned without pay for 11 months, facing threats, assaults, and imprisonment.
Spokesperson Freeborn Igorigo, who recorded the viral plea for help, urged the government to pursue justice and recover their withheld salaries. The rescue, coordinated by Nigerian diplomats, the National Security Adviser, DSS, and NEMA, brought them safely back to Abuja, marking just the first step in ensuring fair treatment for exploited workers abroad.
