A deadly flood struck Enohia Itim community in Afikpo LGA, Ebonyi State, claiming five lives with three still missing after heavy rain on August 1. Over 800 farmers had their farmlands destroyed, with floodwaters sweeping away residents—including children—and submerging large plantain plantations. Rescue efforts recovered five bodies, while three remain unaccounted for.
Ebonyi SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Clement Ovuoba, led an assessment and promised to report to Gov. Francis Nwifuru and national agencies for urgent aid. The Afikpo LGA Chairman also pledged relief and monthly support for the victims’ children, urging residents in flood-prone areas to relocate and maintain drainage systems to prevent future disasters.
