Kwara State is intensifying efforts to fight gender-based violence (GBV) and eradicate female genital mutilation (FGM) through enhanced collaboration among civil society, security, judiciary, and healthcare sectors. At a recent training workshop in Ilorin, Commissioner Dr. Mariam Imam stressed the shared commitment to protect the dignity, safety, and rights of women and children.
She condemned FGM as a severe human rights violation causing lasting harm and reaffirmed Kwara’s dedication to enforcing laws like VAPP and the Child Rights Act. UNICEF and GLOHWOC were praised for their vital advocacy and support. The workshop equipped stakeholders with vital legal and survivor-focused tools to strengthen response systems and ensure perpetrators face justice.
