The Federal Government has withdrawn the criminal complaint against Ms. Comfort Emmanson following appeals from well-meaning individuals and her sincere remorse, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo announced. After giving her statement alongside her lawyer, Emmanson’s regret led to Ibom Air retracting charges, paving the way for her release from Kirikiri Prison this week.
Keyamo also secured agreement to lift the lifetime flying ban on her and ordered the reinstatement of licenses for ValueJet pilots after professional reviews. Additionally, the minister reduced the six-month ban on fuji star Wasiu Ayinde (Kwam 1) to one month and called for his engagement as an airport security ambassador following his public apology.
Acknowledging mistakes on both passengers’ and airline staff’s part during recent incidents, Keyamo directed comprehensive retraining for aviation security personnel and staff on handling unruly situations and improving public relations. The government’s compassionate yet firm stance sends a strong message that safety and security in aviation remain a top priority.
