UN CONDEMNS KILLING OF SIX PALESTINIAN JOURNALISTS IN GAZA, URGES INVESTIGATION

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the killing of six Palestinian journalists, including five Al Jazeera staff, in a targeted Israeli airstrike near Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital. This tragic event underscores the grave dangers journalists face amid ongoing conflict, with over 240 journalists killed in Gaza since the war began. The UN calls for an independent investigation and stresses the protection of journalists who must be allowed to work freely and without fear.

Amid this, Gaza grapples with a humanitarian crisis—over 100 children have died from malnutrition, with 300,000 at severe risk due to food shortages and restricted aid access. The UN warns that only 1.5% of Gaza’s cropland remains usable, signalling a near-total collapse of local food production. Fuel shortages cripple essential services, including ambulance operations, worsening the emergency.

The UN and partners plead for unimpeded aid flow and a predictable humanitarian lifeline to prevent further loss and suffering.
