The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned five men in Abuja for their alleged involvement in the brutal June 5, 2022, attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which killed over 40 worshippers and injured more than 100. The accused, linked to the Al Shabab terrorist cell in Kogi State, face nine terrorism charges as the court prepares for trial starting August 19.
While the court ordered their continued detention, it also allowed their lawyers access to prepare a defense. Four have reportedly confessed, with one accused as an accomplice. The prosecution’s swift action reflects a broader effort to fast-track terrorism trials and deliver justice to victims still seeking closure.
