The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) reveals that 30% of Nigerians experience domestic violence, spotlighting a huge gap in affordable and accessible justice. At a recent Abuja conference, experts highlighted that over 90% of Nigerians face legal issues like domestic violence, land disputes, and employment conflicts every four years. Yet, many avoid formal justice due to cost, complexity, and distance, relying instead on informal community channels.
Speakers stressed the urgent need for fast, fair, and people-centered justice solutions that respect local realities and human dignity. Innovations like community-based justice hubs, language-accessible contracts, and radio dispute resolution show promising paths forward. The government, judiciary, civil society, and international partners must unite to turn data-driven insights into real change, making justice work for all Nigerians.
