President Bola Tinubu has green-lit major steps to improve benefits for Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) pensioners, signalling a new era in pension care. The approvals include immediate extra budget for updated pension rates, a pension harmonisation policy set for 2026, health insurance coverage for all DBS retirees, plus settling unpaid dues to NITEL/MTEL and other parastatal pensioners.
PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, hailed the move as historic and a strong show of commitment to senior citizens’ welfare. The reforms also feature increased pension rates and enrollment in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), ensuring better security and dignity for Nigeria’s retired workforce.
