PETER OBI ADVOCATES FOR 5-YEAR SINGLE PRESIDENTIAL TERM IN NIGERIA

vvPeter Obi, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, called for a five-year single term for Nigeria’s president during a visit to Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed. Obi argued that eliminating second terms would let presidents focus fully on governance without distractions from re-election campaigns, citing South Korea’s system as a model. He pledged to serve only one term if elected in 2027 and emphasized strengthening political parties to be bigger than individual officeholders for better orderliness.

In response, Governor Bala Mohammed urged Obi to return to the PDP, stressing unity and cooperative politics free of ego for Nigeria’s progress.
