NDLEA AND INDIA’S NARCOTICS CONTROL BUREAU BOOST COLLABORATION TO FIGHT ILLEGAL DRUG TRAFFICKING

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) are stepping up their joint fight against the illegal shipment of opioids like tramadol and codeine syrup from India to Nigeria. During a virtual meeting, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa highlighted that over one billion opioid pills and 14.4 million bottles of codeine syrup have been seized in 18 months, underscoring the urgent need for stronger cooperation and training.

NCB Director General Anurag Garg pledged full support for intelligence sharing, capacity building, and specialised training, emphasising that transnational drug syndicates disregard borders, making partnership vital. Both agencies aim to deepen enforcement efforts, share expertise on darknet investigations, and strengthen their existing 2023 MoU for a tougher stance against drug trafficking.
