UNICEF AND KATSINA LAUNCH SMART SURVEY TO TACKLE CHILD MALNUTRITION

UNICEF and Katsina State government are rolling out the Standardised Monitoring and Assessment of Relief Transitions (SMART) Survey to map malnutrition among children aged 6-59 months. The survey will track wasting, stunting, and underweight, helping guide timely interventions across all 34 local governments.

With UNICEF and USAID funding the initiative and Katsina committing over N500 million for therapeutic foods like RUTF, the project aims to curb rising malnutrition. Authorities warn against the illegal trading of these life-saving supplements and plan strict enforcement to protect vulnerable children. Local experts stress that education on available food resources is key to solving the malnutrition crisis.
