NDLEA SEIZES BILLIONS OF PILLS, EXPANDS REHAB CENTRES WITH TINUBU’S SUPPORT

The NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, reveals massive drug busts—1.3 billion tramadol pills and 4.4 million codeine bottles seized from January 2024 to June 2025. With tramadol’s street value near one trillion naira, these seizures cut off huge funding that could fuel terrorism and crime. Since President Tinubu took office, 5,555 tonnes of illicit drugs have been confiscated, 2,000 traffickers arrested, 8,682 convicted, and over 24,000 rehabilitated.

Tinubu’s backing includes building seven new rehab centres, bringing the national total to 37—aiming for one per state and a modern centre per geopolitical zone. Marwa urges families, communities, and states to join the fight, calling for drug abuse education in primary schools and greater grassroots involvement to fight substance abuse nationwide.
