NCDC REPORTS 152 LASSA FEVER DEATHS IN 2025, FATALITY RATE RISES

Lassa fever remains a serious threat in Nigeria with 152 deaths and an 18.7% fatality rate recorded in the first 28 weeks of 2025, up from 17.3% last year. Although confirmed cases are slightly down, late treatment and poor health-seeking behaviors are pushing more lives at risk—especially in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi states.

The NCDC and partners are ramping up response efforts with rapid teams, clinical trials, healthcare worker training, and community outreach. The public is urged to avoid rodents, seek early medical care, and maintain hygiene to help stop the spread. Prompt action saves lives!
