WHO URGES URGENT ACTION TO ELIMINATE HEPATITIS AND CUT LIVER CANCER DEATHS
Every 30 seconds, someone dies from severe hepatitis-related liver disease or cancer, yet we have the tools to stop it. On World Hepatitis Day, WHO calls on governments and partners to fast-track efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis — especially types B, C, and D that cause chronic infections and lead to liver failure and cancer.
With over 300 million people affected globally and treatment rates still far below targets, WHO stresses the need to expand testing, vaccination, and integrated care, while tackling stigma and funding gaps. Progress has been made, but much more is needed to meet 2030 elimination goals and save millions of lives.
