ICC SENTENCES TWO FORMER ANTI-BALAKA LEADERS FOR WAR CRIMES IN CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC
The International Criminal Court has sentenced Alfred Yekatom and Patrice-Edouard Ngaïssona to 15 and 12 years respectively for war crimes and crimes against humanity during CAR’s 2013-14 conflict.
The former militia leaders were found guilty of leading brutal attacks targeting mainly Muslim civilians as reprisal for Seleka abuses. The verdict ends a lengthy trial with nearly 2,000 victims participating, underscoring the ICC’s commitment to justice in CAR’s sectarian violence.
