NEXT PANDEMIC IS INEVITABLE AND COMING SOON, WARNS UCL INFECTIOUS DISEASES EXPERT

Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar of University College London tells the UN ECOSOC that another pandemic will happen—and sooner than anyone wants—due to isolated global health systems and porous borders.

He stresses that no country can stop a pandemic alone and calls for agile, equitable health systems backed by strong international partnerships and consistent investment. The UN’s recent pandemic treaty is a step, but global cooperation must become dynamic and inclusive to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which face a $4 trillion financing gap.
