GOVS, MEDIA TITANS SET TO HONOUR LATEEF JAKANDE IN POWERFUL LAGOS LECTURE
Lagos is gearing up for the 3rd Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, presented by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). This annual event celebrates the iconic journalist and former Lagos State governor, Lateef Jakande, spotlighting his enduring influence on journalism and governance.
This year, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed will deliver the keynote address on “Journalism and the Challenge of Nation-Building in a Multi-Ethnic Society.” Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun chairs the event. Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joins as Special Guest of Honour, alongside Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno, and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mallam Mohammed Idris as Guest of Honour.
The event will also welcome prominent media leaders including Chief Femi Adesina, Joseph Adeyeye (MD of Punch Newspapers), Stella Din-Jacobs (Director of News, TVC), and Funke Egbemode, former Osun State Information Commissioner. Airline industry magnates Prof Obiora Okonkwo of United Nigeria Airlines and Dr. Allen Onyema of Air Peace Airlines are slated as special guests.
Set to start at 10 a.m. at Edmark D’Podium International Event Center in Ikeja, Lagos, the lecture series continues its mission to advance conversations on journalism’s role in national development, honoring Jakande’s remarkable legacy.
