SAUDI ARABIA’S “SLEEPING PRINCE” PASSES AWAY AFTER 20 YEARS IN COMA
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled Al-Saud, widely known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has died at age 36, nearly two decades after a tragic accident left him in a coma.
In 2005, while studying at a military college in London, Prince Al-Waleed was involved in a high-speed car crash at the age of 15. The accident caused a brain hemorrhage and internal injuries, leaving him in a deep coma from which he never recovered.
Years in a Coma:
He spent the next 20 years on life support, mostly at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh. Despite some minor physical responses in later years, such as occasional finger movements, he remained unconscious the entire time.
Family’s Devotion:
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, became a symbol of endless hope and parental devotion, refusing to withdraw life support even when doctors advised it. Videos of the prince’s slight movements shared by his father sparked hope and drew widespread attention across Saudi Arabia and the Arab world.
Confirmation of Death:
Prince Al-Waleed passed away on July 19, 2025. His father announced the loss with an emotional post, quoting the Quran and expressing deep sadness and faith in Allah’s will.
Funeral:
Funeral prayers were scheduled for July 20, 2025, at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh for men and at King Faisal Specialist Hospital for women.
Legacy:
