KANU’S THREAT TO SPARK VIOLENCE CALLED EMPTY BOAST — PROSECUTION URGES COURT TO ORDER DEFENCE

Lead counsel Chief Kanu Agabi tells court Nnamdi Kanu’s threats are mere boasting, not criminal; prosecution disagrees, urging the court to call Kanu to enter defence over terrorism charges linked to violence.

Agabi argued the prosecution failed to prove any incitement and painted Kanu unfairly, highlighting his prolonged solitary confinement and witness forgetfulness. He disputed IPOB’s proscription and questioned the evidence, calling for acquittal.

Opposing, SAN Adegboyega Awomolo said Kanu admitted leading IPOB and calling for violence in broadcasts that fueled the killing of security personnel. He dismissed the boasting defense, stressing such threats cause public fear and demand accountability. The prosecution blamed defence delays and insisted Kanu’s detention complied with court orders.

Justice Omotosho adjourned till October 10 for ruling on the no-case submission.
