DSS HOLDS JOURNALIST TEKENA AMIEYEOFORI INCOMMUNICADO OVER NUPRC CORRUPTION PETITION

A respected Nigerian journalist and energy policy expert, Dr. Tekena Amieyeofori, has been held without communication since March 10, 2025, after submitting a petition accusing the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) of serious corruption and regulatory failures. The Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly abducted him in Abuja shortly after the petition, which was co-signed with Niger Delta youth activist Comrade Goodluck Braide.

Amieyeofori, known for his investigative work and activism within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, has made waves advocating for transparency and reform. His detention has sparked growing concern across media and civil society groups who demand his immediate release and transparency from the DSS. So far, no formal charges or court proceedings have been announced, further raising fears over due process and human rights.

The petition criticized the NUPRC’s poor management of Nigeria’s gas flare policy and alleged corruption under the leadership of Executive Secretary Engineer Gbenga Komolafe—a claim that allegedly provoked the security agency’s heavy-handed response.

As of mid-July 2025, officials remain silent on Amieyeofori’s fate, fueling voices calling for accountability and protection of free speech in Nigeria’s fraught political climate.
