LONG REIGN, LASTING LEGACY: IJEBU MOURNS OBA SIKIRU ADETONA

Nigeria paused as Ijebu-Ode bid farewell to Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, whose 65-year reign ended with his peaceful passing at 91. More than a traditional ruler, he was a visionary whose leadership shaped governance and education in Ogun State and beyond.

Governor Dapo Abiodun called him “a colossus” of tradition and progress, noting his role in modernizing burial customs and advancing good governance. The late king’s legacy stretches from strengthening Ijebuland’s roots to inspiring public policy across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Tributes poured in from across Nigeria, including industrialist Aliko Dangote and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, underscoring the monarch’s profound influence. Recently honoured by President Tinubu with a national award, Oba Adetona’s life remains a beacon of wisdom and service.
