SHETTIMA LEADS TRIBUTE MISSION TO BUHARI FAMILY IN LONDON
Vice President Kashim Shettima has touched down in London to pay respects to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari and to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria for burial. Acting on President Bola Tinubu’s orders, Shettima visited Buhari’s widow, Aisha, and other family members, including his nephew Malam Mamman Daura, who is hospitalized in London.
Buhari, who passed away Sunday at age 82 after a prolonged illness, served Nigeria as military head of state (1984-85) and democratically elected president (2015-23). His body will be flown to his hometown Daura for Islamic burial on Tuesday. The delegation with Shettima includes Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno Governor Babagana Zulum. Flags across Nigeria have been ordered flown at half-staff in his honor.
This solemn mission underscores the nation’s respect for Buhari’s legacy and the government’s commitment to a dignified farewell.
