Journalism Takes Centre Stage in Nation-Building Debate This July
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is gearing up for the 3rd Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on July 23, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos. This annual event honours the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, a revered former Lagos State Governor, journalist, and NGE President, whose legacy continues to inspire.
This year’s theme, “Journalism and the Challenge of Nation-Building in a Multi-Ethnic Society,” promises a compelling exploration of the media’s role in fostering unity and progress in Nigeria’s diverse landscape. Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, will deliver the keynote address, with Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, chairing the event.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will serve as Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris, will grace the occasion as Guest of Honour.
Since its inception in 2023, the lecture series has spotlighted critical media issues, featuring notable speakers like Chief Felix Adenaike and Prince Nduka Obaigbena. This year’s edition is set to deepen the conversation on journalism’s pivotal role in nation-building.
Stay tuned for an insightful dialogue that celebrates Jakande’s enduring impact and the future of Nigerian journalism.
