LAWYERS AGAINST ALL ODDS: FROM CAMP TO COURTROOM

LAWYERS AGAINST ALL ODDS: FROM CAMP TO COURTROOM

Who says you can’t rewrite your story? Five former IDPs just swapped survival for suits and are now officially lawyers. Talk about turning the tables!

When Boko Haram chased them from their homes in Borno, David Ayuba, Peter Isaac, Rifkatu Ali, Saminu Wakili, and Nathan Ibrahim didn’t just run—they sprinted toward a new destiny. Landing in Edo’s Home for the Needy camp, these five swapped trauma for textbooks and, this week, earned their wigs and gowns.

From Bicycles to Barristers: Saminu Wakili once pedaled food to sacked villages, dropped out, and fled to Cameroon. Today? He’s a lawyer, thanks to the camp’s relentless support and a leader who refused to let them quit.

Hurdles? Plenty: Hunger, unpaid fees, stigma—these five faced it all. But with grit (and a lot of prayers), they graduated with flying colours.

Not Just Survivors—Trailblazers: They’ve joined a growing club: over 85 IDPs from the camp have graduated, including new doctors, pharmacists, and soon, 40+ accountants.

Their mentor, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, says every street child is a potential lawyer or doctor—if only given a shot. He urges everyone to lend a hand.
Moral of the story? Never count out the underdog. With a little help, even the most unlikely can make history in the courtroom or anywhere else!
