UNICEF, KEBBI GOVT EMPOWER 400 OUT-OF-SCHOOL GIRLS WITH SKILLS AND LITERACY
In a bold move to end child marriage and boost girl-child empowerment, 400 vulnerable adolescent girls in Kebbi have graduated from a transformative skills and literacy program.
Supported by UNICEF, Kebbi Ministry of Women Affairs, and NANA Foundation, the initiative trained girls from Gwandu, Argungu, and Maiyama LGAs in marketable trades like sewing, knitting, makeup, fashion design, and livestock farming. The program also provided mentorship, psychosocial support, birth registration, and child protection education.
Dr. Suwaiba Salihu hailed the achievement as “gigantic work,” while UNICEF pledged ongoing support to help these girls stand on their own feet and resist abuse and exploitation.
