SENATE SWAPS NATASHA: NEW LEADER FOR DIASPORA COMMITTEE

SENATE SWAPS NATASHA: NEW LEADER FOR DIASPORA COMMITTEE

Drama in the Senate! Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is out as Diaspora Committee Chair, replaced by Aniekan Bassey amid ongoing political tensions.
The Nigerian Senate has officially removed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi) from her role as Chair of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the change during Thursday’s session, naming Sen. Aniekan Bassey as the new chair.
This committee is crucial—it oversees diaspora affairs, NGO activities, and budget matters related to Nigerians abroad. Natasha’s removal follows a turbulent few months including a prior reshuffle, a heated Senate confrontation, and a suspension after serious allegations against the Senate President.
Although a Federal High Court recently ordered her reinstatement, the Senate says it has not yet received official court documents to act on the ruling.
Stay tuned as this political saga unfolds!
