SENATE DEMANDS JUSTICE, COMPENSATION FOR FAMILY OF TODDLER KILLED BY NDLEA STRAY BULLET

A tragic NDLEA operation in Asaba leaves a two-year-old dead and his brother nearly blind—now the Senate is stepping in, demanding justice and N200 million compensation for the grieving family.

The Senate has called on the Federal Government to help the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) compensate the family of Mr. Fidelis Omhonria after his two young children were shot—one fatally, the other left needing major eye surgery—by NDLEA operatives. Despite repeated appeals, NDLEA claimed it lacked the funds to support the family, prompting lawmakers to recommend a N200 million payout for the devastating loss and ongoing medical needs.

Lawmakers from both parties condemned the incident, insisting that those responsible face prosecution and that NDLEA cover all medical bills for the surviving child. The Senate also tasked its legislative compliance committee to monitor the process and ensure the family receives justice and support.
