NIGERIA CUSTOMS SEIZES 10,603 DONKEY GENITALS IN MAJOR WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING BUST
In a bold crackdown, Nigeria Customs intercepted a container carrying over 10,600 donkey genitals along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, highlighting the scale of illegal wildlife trafficking in the country.
The seizure, made on June 5 by the Special Wildlife Office and Customs Intelligence Unit, is part of ongoing efforts to protect endangered species and biodiversity. Over the past year, Customs has disrupted multiple wildlife trafficking operations, recovering live pangolins, African grey parrots, monkeys, and thousands of animal skins and parts.
NCS Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi emphasized the link between wildlife crime and organized offenses like money laundering and arms smuggling. The seized items were handed over to NESREA to enforce environmental laws and international agreements like CITES.
Customs continues to boost surveillance, species identification, and cross-border enforcement, urging the public to report suspicious activities to help end this lucrative and destructive trade.
