EFCC SOUNDS THE ALARM: CRYPTO SCAMS ARE THE NEW WOLF IN DIGITAL SHEEP’S CLOTHING
Think crypto is your golden ticket? Think again! The EFCC just dropped a serious warning: scammers are cashing in on your clicks and crypto dreams. Stay sharp, Nigeria!
Nigeria’s EFCC is waving the red flag high on crypto scams, calling out fraudsters who are turning digital assets into digital traps. At a recent Ilorin lecture ahead of African Union Anti-Corruption Day 2025, EFCC’s top brass reminded everyone that technology itself isn’t the villain—it’s the crooks exploiting ignorance and weak regulations around crypto, NFTs, and digital tokens.
Remember the CBEX scam? Yeah, that one fooled many because people skipped the basics: asking questions and verifying legitimacy. The EFCC boss Ola Olukoyede warns, “No scam thrives without investors ignoring red flags.” Plus, corrupt politicians are now stashing stolen cash in crypto wallets, making recovery a nightmare.
EFCC’s Assistant Chief Superintendent James Allison broke down the scammer playbook: flashy platforms, fake testimonials, and promises of sky-high returns that vanish with your money. His advice? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Do your homework, check licenses, and never rush into “can’t-miss” deals.
The message is clear: education and vigilance are your best defense against these digital con artists. With stronger teamwork between regulators, educators, and the public, Nigeria can fight back and keep its digital wallets safe.
