EFCC BOSS URGES NATIONAL ASSEMBLY: PASS THE UNEXPLAINED WEALTH BILL NOW
No more hiding wealth in plain sight—EFCC’s Ola Olukayode is calling on lawmakers to pass the Unexplained Wealth Bill and help Nigeria finally clamp down on corruption and illicit riches.
The EFCC Chairman, speaking at a national conference on fiscal governance, highlighted shocking findings from recent investigations into the oil and gas sector, warning that unchecked corruption is fueling insecurity and draining Nigeria’s resources. Olukayode stressed that without a law to hold individuals accountable for unexplained wealth, efforts to fight corruption will keep hitting a wall.
He urged Nigerians to unite beyond politics and ethnicity to block revenue leakages, noting that prevention—not just recovery—is the only way to save the economy. The EFCC boss also warned that many stolen assets may never be recovered if host countries refuse to cooperate.
Meanwhile, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, slammed the practice of awarding underfunded contracts, calling it a gateway to waste and corruption. He insisted that projects must be fully funded from the start and called for stricter monitoring right from the beginning of the budget cycle.
