TEXAS FLOODS: DEATH TOLL CLIMBS AS SEARCH FOR MISSING CONTINUES

The heart of Texas is still reeling from devastating floods that have claimed at least 111 lives and left more than 160 people missing, mostly in Kerr County. Rescue teams are tirelessly combing through mud and debris, but no survivors have been found since the disaster struck last weekend.
Kerr County, especially near the swollen Guadalupe River and the historic Camp Mystic girls’ summer camp, has suffered the worst losses. At Camp Mystic alone, 27 campers and counselors died, with six still unaccounted for. The floodwaters surged so rapidly that many were caught asleep, swept away in the early hours of July 4.
Hundreds of rescuers from local, state, and federal agencies, along with volunteers, are using helicopters, boats, heavy machinery, and even horses to search the devastated area. The scale of destruction and the presence of many unregistered campers and RVs have complicated efforts to locate everyone.
Governor Greg Abbott has declared a federal disaster and a public health emergency to support rescue and recovery operations. Despite recent storms, weather is expected to improve, allowing search efforts to continue. Officials now focus on recovery and providing closure to families, pledging: “We will not stop until every missing person is found.”
This tragedy has shaken Texas deeply, reminding all of the power of nature and the fragility of life.
