NAFDAC BUSTS LAGOS WAREHOUSES STUFFED WITH FAKE CHEMICALS AND EXPIRED FOOD FLAVOURS

A billion-naira bust! NAFDAC swoops in on a Lagos syndicate peddling fake chemicals, expired food flavours, and dodgy fertilisers—putting public health on the line.

NAFDAC operatives, led by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, stormed three warehouses in Alapere, Ketu, arresting three suspects and sealing the sites after credible intel exposed a dangerous criminal network. The haul? Fake and expired raw materials, food additives from a registered importer, and fertilisers that should only be handled with government clearance. Some chemicals seized are so risky, they’re meant for official use only—raising alarms about how these items ended up in private hands.

NAFDAC’s investigation revealed that expired batches of food-grade products had been diverted from legitimate companies to third parties, sparking tough questions for multinationals operating in Nigeria. The agency warns: using expired chemicals means unsafe products and serious health risks for consumers.

Dr. Leonard Omokpariola, Director of Chemical Evaluation and Control, urged all companies to strictly follow NAFDAC’s safety guidelines and regulations.
