SPEED HUMPS OR SPEED TRAPS? OKO-OLOWO ROAD DEMANDS A BREAK!
When speed kills, slow down—or else! Kwara’s transport unions are raising their voices (and feet) to bring back speed humps on the notorious Oko-Olowo highway before more lives are lost.
The Road Transport Employers’ Association and National Union of Road Transport Workers in Kwara just marched for one simple demand: bring back the speed breakers on Oko-Olowo federal highway. Led by union chiefs Alhaji Onikijipa and Alhaji Ariwoola, the peaceful protest spotlighted a grim reality—without those humps, the highway has become a deadly race track.
“We’ve buried too many friends and passengers,” Onikijipa lamented. Ariwoola stressed, “Speed breakers aren’t just bumps—they’re lifesavers.” Traders and passengers shared hair-raising stories of crashes and near misses, underscoring the urgent need for action.
This busy north-south artery is crying out for safety measures, and if the government doesn’t act in two weeks, the unions promise to turn up the heat.
