NMA URGES PRESIDENT TINUBU TO INTERVENE IN DOCTORS’ SALARY ARREARS CRISIS
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) is calling on President Bola Tinubu to urgently step in and resolve ongoing issues over doctors’ salary arrears and allowances. NMA President Prof. Bala Audu slammed a recent government circular as misleading and a breach of previous agreements, warning it’s fueling dissatisfaction among doctors and threatening healthcare delivery.
Audu stressed the need for fair pay, proper consultation with all healthcare workers, and a physician-led consultant system for patient safety. The NMA is demanding immediate action on salary adjustments, payment of backlogs, improved welfare, and comprehensive health insurance—giving the government a 21-day ultimatum to act or risk disruptions in medical services.
