MINERALS SEIZED, TRUCK FORFEITED: EFCC SCOOPS BIG IN KWARA!
When illegal mining hits a dead end — a truckload of minerals gets nabbed and handed over to the Federal Government.
In a no-nonsense ruling on July 1, 2025, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola of the Federal High Court in Ilorin ordered the final forfeiture of a truck (registration PKA216YR) loaded with 30 tons of assorted solid minerals to the Nigerian government. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had seized the truck after intelligence revealed illegal mining and mineral trafficking in Kwara State. Despite court orders and public notices, the truck’s owner never showed up, sealing the fate of the cargo as unclaimed property. Justice Ariwoola agreed the EFCC made a solid case under anti-fraud laws and the constitution, granting the forfeiture.
